10 Masterpiece Video Games You Can't Deny

8. Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger
Square Enix

It might be the oldest game on this list with a release date in 1995, but Chrono Trigger is the definition of timeless. Fans will argue that Chrono Trigger is the best JRPG ever made, if not the best RPG in general, and it has an absolutely phenomenal soundtrack. That’s especially impressive given the composer was actually a sound programmer prior to creating the music for this game.

Chrono Trigger is one of those rare games that feels like it does everything right, from the story to the characters, battle mechanics, and worldbuilding, everything just works.

The game also holds up impressively well because of the timelessness of all those elements. It’s clearly the product of a collection of wildly talented developers doing what they do best and the results speak for themselves. The gorgeous open-world, time-travelling mechanic, multiple endings, and introduction of the new game plus feature were nothing short of revolutionary at the time and remain super impressive today.
