10 Misleading Video Game Ads That Lied To Get Your Money
Two of 2015's biggest games, two of the most misleading advertising campaigns in gaming history.
Designing an advert campaign around a game must be a nightmare. Not only is your product constantly getting chopped up, refined and reworked over the course of a few years - occasionally emerging as a completely different beast on the other side - but it means somewhere along the way you've got to try and best represent the 'heart' of the entire project. Over the years, and especially when you factor in the ridiculous budgets and personnel requirements of modern blockbusters, that's led to more and more games arriving in completely different states than when we first laid eyes on them. To some degree its understandable, but on the other hand, when what you're being promised isn't even close to what you end up with, it can be pleasantly misleading at best, and infuriatingly disappointing at worst. The following games are a mix of the two. Some of their creators actively sought to divert attention away from what was really going on in their respective stories, whilst others fell victim to this intro's opening sentiment. In the end, both lead to massive problems, especially when you have to weigh up whether such a tactic amplified the surprise of what was really under the hood, or you've literally been hoodwinked for the sake of company profit.
