10 Mistakes Nintendo Got Away With (Because They're Nintendo)
4. An Adversarial Relationship With YouTube
As one of the oldest gaming companies still going today, it makes sense that Nintendo can sometimes come off as that stubborn grandparent who refuses to change with the times. Online platforms like YouTube give their games a ton of free publicity through creators and streamers sharing Nintendo's games with their audience, but they don't seem to appreciate that.
Nintendo infamously established their 'Creators Program', which allows them to take a cut of the ad revenue content creators make from featuring footage and/or gameplay from their titles. Instead of conceding to this, many creators decided that they simply wouldn't cover Nintendo games.
Nintendo has even struck back at this, such as with Super Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai even saying he didn't want an Adventure Mode in 'Super Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U'. And all because he knew the cutscenes would be uploaded online, leaving many who enjoyed the stories in Melee and Brawl frustrated and disappointed.
Luckily, Nintendo seems to have wised up, as Super Smash Bros Ultimate released with its "World of Light" Adventure Mode, and many creators have featured Nintendo games without incident.
