The 2012 release of the PlayStation Vita should have been a roaring success.

The ability to play your favourite console games on the move was something many gamers with Sony products wanted to hear. Somehow though, the company misfired and failed to meet expectations.

The Vita was the chance for Sony to fill a gaping whole many gamers had in their lives since the days of walking round with a Game Boy in your pocket dried up.

It did manage some excellent conversions of certain franchises too, as the likes of Minecraft, Killzone: Mercenary and Wipeout 2048 proved to be hugely popular.

However, the rise in mobile phones and the graphics and gameplay the likes of Apple and Samsung can offer held Sony's handheld offering back.

The Vita is a good concept in its own right, backed by incredible hardware. You just get the impression that had it been released five years earlier, it might have taken off even more.

Football, WWE, NBA, Pokemon, Star Wars, Breaking Bad. Father to two humans and one dog. At my most stressed when getting beat on NBA2K and blaming 'laggy internet' for all losses.
