10 Moments That Saved Dead Video Games
7. Backwards Compatibility - Skate 3
Arriving when the world needed it most - or at the very least around the time when the Tony Hawks games started going downhill - the Skate series offered players a slightly more grounded and infinitely more technical virtual skateboarding experience that has yet to be bested by any of its competitors.
All three games in the Skate series were hugely successful and retained a loyal following throughout their life-cycles, but sadly Skate 3 was to be the final game in the series and once its servers were deactivated, many fans were left pining for their daily dose of nose-grinding action,
Cut to a few years later and all of a sudden the servers were back online, which both delighted and slightly confused fans as there wasn't any real build-up to this announcement. It's theorised that this was done when the game was made backwards compatible for the Xbox One, something that players knew was coming but the added bonus of the servers coming back online saw the game's player base sore to levels not seen since its original release.
And for those who are still craving a few games of Hall of Meat, the servers are still functional today, so dive on in we say!
