10 Moments That Saved Dead Video Games
6. Champion Edition - Street Fighter V
There was a lot of hype surrounding the lead-up to Street Fighter V coming out - it was the sequel to Street Fighter 4, the game that completely re-invigorated the modern fighting game landscape and ushered in all manner of new games. It had a lot to live up to and sadly, it crashed and burned.
In a rare miss for Capcom, Street Fighter V's launch was a disaster. There was a relatively small pool of sixteen fighters that gained a mixed reception due to some rather odd inclusions but it was the lack of an Arcade Mode that was most shocking.
That's right, a fighting game with no arcade mode. Madness.
Fans were quick to toss aside Street Fighter 5 and return to the previous game but Capcom soon put the work in and released additional content as fast as they could, eventually releasing the aptly-named Arcade Edition which expanded the roster and content, but it was the release of the Champion Edition that saw things really take off.
The active player base on Steam practically doubled overnight and even the numbers of the PS4 version shot-up and despite the botched launch there's still a dedicated bunch who choose this over Street Fighter 6.
