10 Moments That Saved Dead Video Games

3. Modders Unite - Battleborn

Street fighter v
2K Games

Completely overshadowed by Overwatch at the time of its release, Battleborn was fighting an uphill battle from the very beginning. Whilst it had its fair share of neat characters, none of them possessed the same level of charm and exquisite design that Blizzard's band of heroes possessed, nor did its world and lore.

That's not to say Battleborn is a bad game of course, far from it in fact, it's a very well-made genre offering with plenty to offer fans of the genre, offering up a surprising amount of depth for a hero shooter; but when placed alongside a game like Overwatch which had significantly better media coverage and marketing behind it, it was sadly doomed to fail as its more accessible competitor stole the limelight and the servers for the game were shut-down in 2021.

However it wouldn't remain dormant for too long as the dedicated Battleborn players banded together and through a collective modding effort, Battleborn Reborn has been keeping the fires going since 2023. This fan-made project has seen numerous gameplay updates and tweaks to the game's core combat and mechanics which has lead to a lot more people appreciating what the game has to offer.
