10 More Great Video Games That Never Got Sequels

7. Dark Sector

I'm not going to use hyperbole and say "Dark Sector is the greatest hidden gem ever", because frankly, it's not. But what it is, is a reasonably strong third person cover-shooter with a nifty little, three-pointed USP; the glaive.

It added some variety to the bog standard pop-and-shoot stylings of Gears of War and the like, by having a projectile weapon you could eventually control mid-flight for maximum shenanigans. Its story was a nice take on the whole "Russians are bad" spiel, with the Technocyte virus being the backbone to the proceedings. Our hero Hayden Tenno becomes infected, yet doesn't succumb to it, as he inevitably saves the day.

Dark Sector is a strange beast, as it originally started development as a space adventure... which has now gone full circle in the shape of free-to-play sci-fi title Warframe.

So on the outside, it seems Dark Sector was a by-product, a one-off splinter cell of a much bigger universe. It seems unlikely Digital Extremes will ever revisit it, what with Warframe doing so well.
