10 More Insane Lies Told On Video Game Box Art

2. Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing - No Cops, No Loads, No Gameplay

Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing has the dubious distinction of being one of most critically panned games of all time, its distinct oil-slicked offering of semi racing across all roads Americana managing to amass a titanic 8/100 Metascore. Its infamy is so legendary amongst purveyors of all things crap that there's almost nothing left to unpack in this massive truck of sh*te, though scorn rarely focuses on its box art - one of the few aspects which appear, ostensibly, competently put together.

As a piece of art, it's not at all terrible, depicting a police car in pursuit of an eponymous, contraband-carrying Big Rig. Overall, it's a fair representation of the game as described by the box, in which "you'll be hauling loads and trying to stay one step ahead of the law."

So what's the problem here, then? Could it be that at no point during Big Rigs are you chased by cops, nor is there any semblance of cargo-delivery to be had? It's probably that. In addition to the fact that all the screenshots are faked, this probably should have been called Big Fibs: Wool Over the Eyes Racing.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
