3. The Smash Bros. Boss Fight - No More Heroes III
The No More Heroes games are nutty enough that there isn't a whole lot that could feel hilariously left-field, and yet, the final battle between Travis and Damon goes to a place just about nobody could've seen coming.
The last stage of the boss fight turns into an outrageous parody of Super Smash Bros., evidenced by the camera perspective, the damage percentage indicators for each fighter, and that the battle ends with Damon being knocked into the stratosphere complete with Smash's iconic "GAME!" announcement.
The Smash homage didn't go down well with everyone, though, as some fans felt it robbed them of a more "legit" final boss battle, even as others were excited that they finally got "Travis in Smash," as they had been demanding for so long.
Hilariously, game director Suda51 confirmed that Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai gave him a personal thumbs-up to include the parody, amid Suda's own concerns that including the fight could cause a legal headache.
Love it or hate it, it sure as hell sticks out like a sore thumb.
