4. The Train Epilogue - Hitman III

The new trilogy of Hitman games have made an art out of delivering meticulously crafted sandboxes for players to explore while finding ways to creatively off their assassination targets.

But Hitman III's final mission, an epilogue set in the Carpathian Mountains, throws the sandbox formula out the window for a more linear and constrained scenario that's proven massively divisive with long-time fans of the franchise.

The mission is set on a train as Agent 47 is tasked with eliminating Arthur Edwards, the new supreme leader of the shadow government known as Providence.

Though moderately amusing as a James Bond-esque sortie, for players used to having an expansive locale to investigate and a wealth of murder options at their disposal, this felt bafflingly simple and restrictive.

There's far less of an incentive to be stealthy in this mission, where players are basically encouraged to relentlessly shoot their way to the finish, as is about the least Hitman-like of strategies imaginable.

It's not a good Hitman level, but it is fun to a point. Either way, it's wildly out of place compared to everything else in the recent trilogy.
