10 MORE Video Games That Started At The End
5. Prototype
Cult classic action-adventure game Prototype boasts one of the most memorable in medias res prologue sequences of the last decade-or-so.
The game's blistering opening set-pieces takes place late in the game as players are given control of a fully powered-up Alex Mercer with one single objective: annihilate all the surrounding soldiers in Times Square.
It's pure, unadulterated wish fulfilment carnage, with players able to lay waste to well-armed soldiers, tanks, and hunters with the full extent of Mercer's might.
But just as things appear to be ramping up to a climax, we cut to black and shift back 18 entire days, with the rest of the game detailing how Alex received superpowers and got to this point.
The opening scene plays out again at the end of the game, literally just minutes before you fight the final boss and wrap things up.
