4. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Nintendo’s Animal Crossing franchise has always been quite a polarizing experience. It just doesn’t strike a chord with everybody, but its very nature.
Some new players dabble briefly before becoming frustrated by the ‘aimlessness’ and slow pace of it all. If you click with this accessible and adorable life sim, however, you may find that it never lets you go! Before you know it, you’ll be speaking in gibberish ‘Animalese’ and trying to turn your wages over to a greedy tanuki named Tom Nook every month.
Why You’ll Never 100% It:
The simple fact is, it’s just not possible to do absolutely everything in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, because it has no ending.
This Nintendo Switch instalment guides you along a little more than previous entries by means of the Nook Miles system (which offers achievements in the form of milestones for watering particular numbers of flowers, for instance), but in the end, those rolling credits are just for show during K.K Slider performances.
You set your own goals, from completing the museum, furnishing a perfect house, terraforming your island into your ultimate vision of beauty (decorating every inch of it along the way) and much more. Even when you’ve done that, though, your island life will keep ticking away. Forever. If there’s one thing the Animal Crossing community teaches fans, it’s that there’s always something to do, make or see that you haven’t thought of yet!
