10 Most Bizarre Multiplayer Maps In Video Games
5. Hanenbow (Electroplankton) - Super Smash Bros. Brawl
The Smash Bros. Series has always tried to diversify their stages.
Some of them are your bog-standard chunks of concrete with the odd
floating platform distended in the air, while others will
systematically change and morph during the fight, or just
progressively scroll in some direction.
Deviating away from the norm is not always the wisest idea, though. As is the case with the Hanenbow stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Virtually every fan of the game hates this stage, so it's no surprise that it never returned in the fourth installation. In fact, it's so awkward to play on, various tournaments have since banned it.
The leaves on the two stalks have a white line between them; they serve as the platforms to fight on. They're small, and the edges cannot be grabbed onto, making recovery from falls to your doom a nightmare. Smacking the leaves turn them red, and will make them tilt up and down at an angle.
Considering how small the plant to the left of the stage is, campers tend to hog this spot for the entirety of the match.
To top it all off, there's no music aside from a brief introductory tune from an orchestra. The Hanenbow fish fly in an orderly line, reflecting off the leaves and producing some relaxing xylophone notes.
Ironic, since the stage is so frustrating to play. No wonder it never came back for the next game. All in all, it still stands as one of the most unique and unconventional stages in the series.
