While the PlayStation version received inferior versions of entries in the real-time strategy Command & Conquer series (seriously, how can you play it without the ability to save?), they were given exclusive content to partly compensate for this.

C&C Red Alert came with about 16 multiplayer maps on the console, whereas the stand-alone expansion pack Retaliation came with over one hundred, alongside single player missions from both of the PC expansions, along with exclusive FMV briefings. Not too shabby.

Two maps in question will be a big surprise for any seasoned commander, for they add some unexpected changes to the game.

Starting off with the unimaginatively named Map 41, this one actually makes use of the useless technicians. When buildings are sold or destroyed, there's a chance a few technicians will pop out. Unlike riflemen, these are fodder units; they're frail, weak, and run around like crazy when shot at.

Map 41 seems to make them tougher than ever, for the blue dudes can blast electricity, while the green guys launch nukes.

Meanwhile, on Map 51, most of the units have been changed. Technology previously exclusive to Soviets might also available to the Allies, and vice versa. Hind helicopters launch fireballs, light tanks spew bullets, APCs unleash a rocket barrage, and so on.

Just when you thought you might be able to enjoy a relaxing skirmish, then all of this unexpectedly happens for no apparent reason at all.
