8. Conker (Conker series)
Who would have thought that a cute cartoonish squirrel would become one of the most controversial video game characters in history. Or that Rare, a game developer not well known for controversial titles -- except Killer Instinct-- would conceive such a character on a kid friendly console the Nintendo 64, later revamped for the Xbox. Enter Conker, a swearing squirrel who has a thing for booze and sexy squirrel chicks. Conker's adventures range from the violently unsettling to the grossly offending. On one hand, he has fought his way through a war zone where cute furry creatures get ripped to shreds with bullets and napalm. On the other hand, he has thrown rolls of butt paper to stuff the mouth of a a singing pile of sentient excrement. And through it all he and the cast have delighted us with witty swearing that has been censored by the ESRB. Truly one controversial video game character to remember.
