Hack n' slash games are a natural source for controversy as they feature characters ripping others to shreds with vile weapons. Hence the term. But one title in this genre that is considered the most controversial is the God of War series, starring Kratos. This spartan has it out for the Greek Gods that have betrayed him throughout the series. It all started the day when poor Kratos made a pact with Ares, the God of War who would then manipulate him into viciously dismembering his own family, and the rest was history. Since then, Kratos has murdered every god and minion alike in the most gruesome ways you could think of. Particularly, his coldly means for dispensing of female baddies has outraged many, relaunching the awareness that virtual violence against women was still alive and well. Hence, Kratos has rightfully earned his spot on this list.
