10 Most Controversial Video Game Levels Ever

3. Mountain Temple - Tomb Raider

The 2013 remake of Tomb Raider created a mountain of controversy before release due to a scene that occurs early in the game. While exploring the Mountain Temple, Lara Croft is captured and bound by mercenaries.

While navigating through the hideout to find a means of escape, one soldier grabs Lara, triggering a quick-time event. If the player doesn't respond quickly, the man will strangle Lara to death.

If the player inputs the correct sequence of attacks, she will break free and kill her attacker. This scene is meant to be impactful, being it's the first time Lara Croft takes a human life.

This became one of the most memorable moments in the series but not for the reason the developers hoped. Just before the attacker strangles Lara, he makes a movement as if he is preparing to sexually assault her. Even though Tomb Raider has zero depiction of rape, news outlets across the world condemned the game due to this scene's implication.

Although the game is 18-rated and has some incredibly gory moments, nothing caused more debate than this section.
