5. Infamous - Dead or Alive?
This video has changed the way I view violence in games forever. We are too often trained in games to kill AIs willy nilly with no regard for the kind of damage we are doing. While most detractors that are against violent video games argue that it is because it desensitise the way we interact with one another and can corrupt who we are, I would just submit this video. It is proof that these AIs that we brutally murder can feel pain and that it can manifest it in horrific ways. While playing through Infamous, this player came across this poor fellow on the floor with what can only be called one of the most frightened and horrific facial expressions I have ever seen. This is clearly a man in pain. Screaming in pain. Perhaps he is in so much pain he can't process it. But what ever he is doing, he just lays there motionless. He sits silently and the only indication that we get that he is alive is his slow blinking. All that ran through my mind while watching this was casting back to all the AI I have killed through your entire lifespan of gaming, the pain I must have caused for these people and their virtual families. Then it hit me. This is only scary because I am the monster. It is like a hellish mirror that reveals what we truly are, and that is evil.
