10 Most Depressing Video Game Endings

8. Shadow Of The Colossus

shadow of the colossus

In one of the most memorable titles from the PS2 era, you find yourself on a quest to hunt down and slay 16 giant creatures in order to save the love of your life, called Mono. If a little predictable, the game's big twist is still no less effective for it, as once you defeat the last of the Collossi, it quickly becomes apparent that they weren't actually all that bad, they were the only things standing in the way of keeping the evil demon Dormin from returning from his long slumber. Upon awakening you become possessed by him, before eventually being transformed into a horned demonic infant who at the end of it all comes into the care of Mono. It's no Hollywood ending that's for sure. Not only do you feel cheated and used after battling all 16 Collossi, but you end up being physically used by the game's real antagonist. In the end you do get the girl, but it's by no means in the way you intend to when you first set off on your adventure.

I'm just a humble wannabe writer from the midlands, who reads too much, watches too much tv, and hopes to one day be at the helm of some dramatic brilliance of my own. But for now, the likes of Breaking Bad and anything Stephen King are far too distracting.
