6. Half-Life 2: Episode 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4C70e4QSRUs The Half-Life 2 episodes were a great way to expand the fantastic framework laid down by Valve in the original game, and keep us excited for the inevitable Half-Life 3. However, the downbeat ending to Half-Life 2: Episode 2 is all the more crushing because it was released almost 5 and a half years ago, and Episode 3 still doesn't appear to be anywhere in sight, meaning we won't find out the resolution to its infuriating cliffhanger for probably a few more years in the very least. The game ends with protagonist Gordon Freeman along with resistance buddies Alyx and her father Eli entering a hangar to board a helicopter that will get them the Hell of out of dodge. Just as it all seems hunky dory, a pair of Advisors break into the hanger, grab Eli, and then murder him on front of the pair of Gordon and Alyx. Just as the Advisors go to pounce on Alex, Dog bursts in and saves the day. The game ends with a distraught Alex cradling Eli's body, and that's the last glimpse of the Half-Life universe we've been left with for over 5 years. Depressing and annoying. Valve, fix it!
