10 Most Disappointing Video Games Of 2018

4. Sea Of Thieves

Sea Of Thieves The Arena
Rare

It's no secret that Rare haven't exactly been at their best for, well, over a decade by now. The iconic developer has mostly been relegated to the sidelines, but with Sea of Thieves, their ambitious, multiplayer pirate game, it looked like they had recaptured some of the charm and creativity that defined their early work.

In a way, they did as well. Sea of Thieves can be a joy to play with a band of fellow marauders, travelling to uncharted islands to steal a load of treasure and then defend it against incoming players who want to take it off your hands. Sadly, it didn't take fans long to realise that's all they'd be doing, for pretty much the entire game.

At launch, the exclusive lacked content to sustain the kind of time sink the developers were hoping for, with the world itself appearing sparse and lifeless. Rare did promise content drops over the coming months, and have constantly tweaked the game and delivered on these promises to the point where there's far more to do today, but that initial disappointment still lingers.
