10 Most Disappointing Video Games Of 2022 (So Far)
7. Gran Turismo 7
Like so many of the entries on this list, Gran Turismo 7's placement comes with a caveat. When I reviewed Sony's premier racer, I praised it for its astonishing level of detail, bevvy of content, and for having some of the most engaging, tactile driving sim gameplay options available right now. For the first week or so, things were hunky dory - Gran Turismo was back on top.
And then, those pesky microtransactions started to rear their ugly heads.
While the core progression of GT7 initially rewarded you with a healthy amount of in-game currency for completing circuits, allowing you to buy new cars and upgrade the ones you already owned at a satisfying frequency, post-release updates made this process a far larger grind by limiting the amount these races paid out.
Backlash ensued, as fans were furious that they were being pushed to buying in-game currency with real-world money in order to afford the title's top tier cars. While this kind of post-release microtransaction push is expected from the likes of Activision and EA, to see it in a Sony first-party title was a major disappointment.
