5. NES 'You Cannot Beat Us'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FybA0SaL0nI It all starts off so sweetly the familiar and friendly Nintendo logo accompanied by the iconic opening music to the first level of Super Mario. But then things get a dark turn, and your TV signal gets intercepted by blocky polygonal creatures from an alternative dimension, rhythmically chanting You Cannot Beat Us. The distorted voices, accompanied by the ever-maddening music from Bowser's castle, send you into a trance of the sort that you snap out of to find that you've butchered your pet hamster. Of course, if this ad doesn't give you a breakdown, then it's a rousing call to arms a hardball approach to advertising that makes you want to defy these malign otherworldly beings, get yourself a NES and prove them wrong. Given that the NES single-handedly revived the home console, Nintendo's ad campaign must've done something right.
