6. Legend Of Zelda - An Insight Into Insanity
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsI-R9jta7c Legend of Zelda is a complex game that could drive you crazy, but I don't know if that's the intended message in this ad about a man who is going through some kind of manic episode. It's an interesting one-man performance, for sure, and this guy would've been a fine extra in the asylum scene in Twelve Monkeys. Alternatively, the whole ad looks like it could be an outtake from Eraserhead (just replace the zany cartoon sounds with some Lynchian monotones) The editing is what makes it disturbing, chopping frantically between different shots of the guy putting on a million different voices, squealing, and uttering inscrutable words like 'peahats' and 'levers', which would've meant absolutely nothing to people at the time because Zelda wasn't yet a world-famous franchise. Who knows, maybe the man was just locked in that dark room for a week, and this is a kind of 'best bits' compilation of his degeneration into madness. I wonder what became of him...
