Though we still don't have an official date for Days Gone, Sony has indicated towards an early 2018 release window for their innovative new zombie title.
And despite being yet another game about fighting off the hordes of the walking dead, Days Gone has the potential to shake up the done-to-death genre in a potentially massive way.
Because while gamers have enjoyed countless zombie games over the past few years, there have been few open world ones outside of the Dead Rising franchise that have been truly great.
Likewise, the undead in Days Gone are closer to being a force of nature than a general enemy, meaning that they can be smartly manipulated to meet a player's own ends rather than functioning as pure cannon fodder.
Plus, it seems as though Sony Bend is prioritising the game's narrative, hoping to hit the high calibre of storytelling established by the likes of Naughty Dog and Guerilla Games. It won't be easy to do, but if they pull it off then Days Gone could turn out to be one of the best exclusives on PS4
