5. Joel Threatens To Rip Out A Guy's Knee In The Last Of Us
Despite being one of the seemingly 'tamer' entries on this list, The Last of Us' superb interrogation scene is one of the most ridiculously tense you'll ever see.
After waking up with his companion and daughter surrogate Ellie missing and taken captive, Joel captures a few of the thugs who took her and begins to beat them for information. Threatening to pop out one of the guy's knees with his knife, if you only saw this one scene from the game you'd probably think that Joel was its main villain.
While The Last of Us had always hinted at his underlying dark side before this, the stress and fear of losing Ellie pushes Joel to the edge, and he absolutely brutalises the two raiders both mentally and physically to get the information he needs.
The scene is the first indication of just how far the character is willing to go to not lose another one of his friends, and it's not an easy thing to watch unfold.
