4. Snake Loses An Eye In Metal Gear Solid 3
Torture sequences have always been a staple of the MGS series, but by far the most memorable and visceral one came in the third game.
Captured by the villainous Volgin and being held in a grimy room with a bag over his head, the player has to watch while Snake is beaten for information. In classic Kojima fashion the scene is much more interactive than it could have been, opening with complete blackness as you're put directly into the disorientated eyes of Snake while his health slowly depletes with every hit.
It gets crazier from there too, as Snake is charged with lightning and repeatedly punched by electric fists. Taking all of the punishment like a champ, the scene only ends when the character loses one of his eyes thanks to a stray bullet.
The franchise has always boasted over the top interrogation scenes, but MGS 3 is the only one where it actually feels like anyone is genuinely being put through the wringer.
