10 Most Iconic Moments From Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

1. Online Multiplayer

There were minor problems with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's online multiplayer - mostly centring around balancing, as at times you'd believe an opponent was down before turning your back and subsequently being killed courtesy of the Last Stand perk yet again.

For the most part though, the online experience just felt right. Respawns were rapid, lobby wait times were brief and equipment selection was simple.

In many ways, the rhythm of the game recalled arcade classics where short matches gave plenty of variety and replayability. Match choices were brilliant - particularly Search and Destroy - and the maps allowed for varied playstyles whether you were a sniper, sprinter, explosives specialist (or 'noobtuber') or just an infantry grunt.

The experience point rank system led to plenty of juicy equipment unlocks and had plenty coming back for more to achieve Prestige again and again.

It took some of the single player maps you'd enjoyed and walled them off into tiny combat arenas filled with destruction and lightning quick matches.

Compared to competitor Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 was smooth, fast and rewarded swift-moving players with quick reactions - a formula that helped immortalise it in gaming's history books to this day.
