3. Master Sword Legend of Zelda
You surely remember the absolute bedlam that occurred when The Ocarina of Time was released near Christmas 1998, when parents simply could not get hold of a copy for love nor money, and were practically embarking on Master Quests themselves in order to secure the game and stave off the tantrums come Christmas morning. The Master Sword has become so irreversibly Linked (please excuse the pun) to The Legend of Zelda series that people often mistakenly believe that it features in every version of the game. Not so; while Link does invariably have a sword in every game, the Master Sword itself only shows up in A Link to the Past, The Ocarina of Time, The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. These four games are without a doubt some of the most iconic of the whole franchise (with the gold medal obviously going to The Ocarina of Time) and with that in mind, I have to commit the legendary Master Sword to the upper echelons of this list. Without it, how would we have ever defeated Ganondorf to rescue our lovely, pointy-eared princess?
