10 Most Iconic Weapons in Video Game History

4. Crowbar €“ Half Life

The second Half-Life weapon to smash its way into this list is way less technologically advanced than the first. But whereas the Gravity Gun was iconic because of what it represented about the progress of the technology, the crowbar is iconic for a much more simple, metaphorical reason. Freeman - and by extension us - grabs the Crowbar as his only form of defence against the sudden onslaught of aliens and un-dead colleagues at Black Mesa. This simple, unassuming Crowbar epitomizes everything that Gordon Freeman is as a character. He€™s not a purpose built hero, designed to kick ass, take names, and get the girl; he€™s a simple, unassuming scientist whose legend as the Last Free Man is a result of nothing more than a powerful survival instinct. That€™s why the moment in Half-Life 2, when Barney hands you the Crowbar, there€™s an immediate internal cheer from the player. It€™s not what it can do, but what it stands for that makes it iconic. Here€™s the Crowbar in action, for the three of you out there that never played the Half-Life series: http://youtu.be/nGwbVbJhbGQ
