10 Most Influential LGBT Characters In Video Games
2. Dorian Pavus - Dragon Age: Inquisition
BioWare have long had gay, straight and bisexual squadmates for you as the protagonist to try your luck with. Only Dorian can realistically claim to be especially influential or developed though.
There’s a fine line between playing a character’s sexuality as natural and ignoring it completely. Mass Effect feels conspicuous by its absence on its list, but unless you held extended conversations with them in isolation, their sexuality seemed largely irrelevant. Honourable mention to BioWare’s other franchise for having so many inclusive options, but they’ve been left out to make room for other, more intriguing characters.
Characters like Dorian. Inquisition’s second pick here, Dorian is entertainingly camp and confident from the moment you meet him. He’s so much more than just the comic figure though, as you uncover as the game unfolds.
If you don’t pursue a relationship with either Dorian or Iron Bull, the two of them will enter into a relationship on their own. As well as normalising queer relationships within the game’s universe, having two squadmates fall for each other adds fascinating depth.
One of the side missions also deals with Dorian’s relationship with his father, a narrative that’s surprisingly nuanced and heartfelt for such a comic character.
