10 Most Influential LGBT Characters In Video Games
3. Chloe Price - Life Is Strange
Including Chloe may be slightly breaking the rules of ‘no player controlled characters’, as she’s a playable character in Before The Storm. However, that’s only a prequel to Life Is Strange where her sexuality as a lesbian is clearly established.
Life Is Strange has other fantastic queer representation in the form of Max Caulfield (bisexual) and Rachel Amber (lesbian), as well as some minor characters, but Chloe just ousts them in terms of her potential influence on the industry.
Despite Max being the central character of Life Is Strange, we learn much more about Chloe’s life. We see her struggling to keep it together at home following the death of her father, acting out by getting expelled and falling into a life of crime.
While the game does its best to paint her as an alternative rebel, with the tattoos and the blue hair, being a lesbian never feels like a fashion statement.
As is the nature of these episodic games, there’s a detailed narrative. Chloe only ever seems comfortable and vulnerable around Rachel or Max. For too long, female characters in entertainment have been labelled a lesbians to mark them as edgy and unique. Chloe brings a much needed softness into the equation.
