10 Most Insanely Violent Video Games Ever Made

4. Manhunt

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1WEWKRhsxY The Manhunt games were subject to a lot of controversy upon release - with the typical PC brigade trying to blame kid-on-kid violence on the game rather than, you know, the douche parent who allowed them to play it - and in retrospect, it really seems like a lot of old fuss. What differentiates Manhunt from other gory games is how sadistic the focus on murder and torture it is; the game is not flippantly gory or particularly over-the-top in a cartoonish style, but instead rooted in realistic, brutal methods of murder such as strangulation and blunt force trauma, which hit a sour note with Daily Mail readers all over the nation. I mean, there's no mistaking that Manhunt is an extremely violent, unpleasant game, but it's also a massive hoot, and it's easy to imagine that many more were compelled to play both games just because of the controversy surrounding them. The game taps into a very specific element of the human mind, and gives us free reign to explore that darker aspect of our curiosity; as a result, it's no surprise that the series has sold almost 2 million copies to date.
