Easily the most popular of the Mortal Kombat ninjas, Hanzo Hasashi, better known as Scorpion, is the last surviving member of the Shirai Ryu clan. Despite not being the main protagonist of the franchise, he is often seen as the poster boy of Mortal Kombat. Scorpion has appeared in every Mortal Kombat game except for 1995’s Mortal Kombat 3, however he was present in both Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy.

In both timelines, the Shirai Ryu clan, along with Scorpion’s wife and son, were murdered by Bi-Han - still under the guise of Sub-Zero. Scorpion becomes a Spectre in the Netherrealm enters the first tournament for revenge. He is able to kill Bi-Han, which turns him from Sub-Zero into Noob Saibot. It is later revealed to him that Quan Chi was the mastermind behind the massacre of his clan, causing Scorpion to exact revenge on the necromancer as well.

Scorpion is another aggressive and versatile fighter, making him a popular choice among Mortal Kombat fans. His ‘Hellfire Punch’ and his ‘Spear’ are both easily able to counter zoner character, getting Scorpion up in the face of his opponents where he is able to perform damaging combos. Scorpion is easily the most recognisable character of the franchise, being one of the most iconic fighting game characters of all time.
