Available from essentially the beginning of the game, the Claymore is a very potent tool in the hands of an undead pilgrim. Acquired from a corpse on the bridge leading to Undead Parish that's guarded by a vicious Hellkite Drake, this greatsword deals out excellent damage whilst not being as slow or deliberate as many other strength weapons.

The claymore has a great move set that combines both thrusting and slashing attacks, with some sweeps for solid crowd control as well. Once you know your attacks, you'll chain together combos very fluidly. Attacks do not have quite as much weight as other greatswords, and the more flexible range of attacks means that Claymore wielders can react to practically any encounter very easily.

Some may see it as an inferior Zweihander what with the reduced range and lesser damage output, and the lack of that iconic clanging sound. However, the greater level of flexibility the Claymore offers more than enables it to be as good a choice for a journey through Lordran. It's no surprise that many players are very fond of the Claymore.
