Pokémon X and Y introduced fairy-type Pokémon, which became the first new type added to the games since dark and steel made their debuts in Pokémon Gold and Silver. Naturally, a number of new additions to the game were fairy-type, whilst selected old favourites such as Clefairy, Togepi, and Jigglypuff were retrospectively recast, and a new Eeveelution was created.

Pokémon Sun and Moon will add more to the mix, one of whom already stands out as a particularly lazy creation given the extensive Hawaiian theming of the games. Comfey is an anthropomorphic take on a lei, a flower wreath that has its roots in the tradition of the islands but is now mostly seen as a tourist symbol given how they are presented to new arrivals.

No generation of the games seems to get away without several clunkers and based on the new creatures that have been revealed thus far, Comfey seems to be leading the pack this time around. This perception could change should it end up becoming useful for something or other, but that seems unlikely.
