Ice cream isn't the only artificial foodstuff that has made it into the Pokédex over the years, as generation VI saw fit to add a Pokémon based on candyfloss - or cotton candy as our American friends call it - in the form of Swirlix. Similiar to Cottonee from Generation V (which was based on cotton wool, itself similar to Swablu from Generation III), it does tick the cuteness box.

Quite randomly, it evolves into a Slurpuff, which is based on another dessert entirely, meringue. Whilst this can be forgiven, as the games have had their fair share of nonsensical transformations (a cocoon into a bee, a small fish into an octopus, and so on and so forth), the creature's appearance cannot, as there is something intrinsically disturbing about a pudding with legs, particularly given its permanently sticking out tongue.

Food-inspired Pokémon like these two are few and far between for the time being, but as the franchise continues to grow and new designs are continuously needed between generations, where will the line be drawn? Will we soon get an anthropomorphic pie? A loaf of bread with a face? Who really knows at this point?
