2. Edgar Ross - Red Dead Redemption

Edgar Ross was always a scumbag, a holier-than-thou fat-cat with little respect for anyone outside of his professional circle. But it seemed as though he had at least some semblance of a moral code; what kind of monster would make a man jump through such an arduous series of hoops in order to gain his freedom, only to mercilessly gun him down for his efforts?

Edgar Ross would.

Not content with simply betraying John Marston, this crooked Bureau chief wanted to rub salt in his wounds. So he lets John enjoy peaceful ranch life with his wife and son, as a reward for tracking and killing his former gang members.

He gives John a taste of what his life could have been like, had he not set out on the wrong path, before ordering a posse of more than twenty men to fill him with holes. There’s no honour in his actions, nor is there much in the way of justice.

Edgar Ross displayed all the traits of a cowardly man; it wasn’t the betrayal itself that shocked us, but the lengths at which Ross would go to ensure Marston was not only put in the ground, but humiliated every step of the way.
