10 Most Shocking Moments In Mortal Kombat History

4. Goro

As soon as you booted up the Super Nintendo version of Mortal Kombat, the four-armed 8ft-tall Goro appeared and smashed the logo out of the way. He then flexed his muscles and stared at the player menacingly. In that moment, you knew the only way to complete the game was to defeat this behemoth.

Due to his multiple limbs, towering height, and terrifying appearance, Goro became an instant icon in the gaming community. The hype for Goro was so overwhelming, some gamers were worried that fighting him would be a complete letdown.

Thankfully, Goro exceeded expectations. When you defeat the opponent prior, Goro INSTANTLY appears! In the Arcade and Mega Drive version, the announcer doesn't even say, "Round 1, FIGHT!" so you have no time whatsoever to brace for the battle. This moment is so shocking because there is usually a ten-second gap between fights to give the player time to prepare. Goro disregards this notion and starts wailing on you the instant he enters the arena.

He was so popular, the developers devised many other monstrous sub-bosses such as Kintaro, Motaro, and Moloch. However, none of them had the same effect as the first time the player laid eyes on Goro.
