The Shibito are corpses reanimated by evil spirits and are the most common enemy throughout the Forbidden Siren survival horror series.

Forbidden Siren games feature large casts of playable characters, the majority of whom will suffer grim fates and return as Shibito who will take great pleasure in hunting the few remaining survivors. Seeing these familiar characters - some of whom you’ll have grown attached too - transformed into cackling bloodstained maniacs is very unsettling.

Like the Deadites from Evil Dead, Shibito love to taunt their victims and will laugh like excited toddlers when they spot you.

To make matters worse, Shibito can’t be killed. They can be downed momentarily but before long another spirit will possess the body and revive them so they can continue their murderous existence.

In later entries in the series the Shibito were shown to be just the first stage; older Shibito mutate and become more insect-like, sprouting mandibles from their mouth and growing wings, or transforming into enormous maggot-like monsters.

It’s such a shame Forbidden Siren never managed to iron out the series’ mechanical issues (namely the clunky combat and finicky stealth) because the nightmarish creatures you encountered were on a par with anything the survival horror heavyweights threw at you.
