10 Most Terrifying Video Game Zombies
2. Necromorph - Dead Space
Necromorphs - and the Dead Space series in general - clearly owe a vast debt to horror movie classics: Alien, and The Thing.
Like the famous Xenomorph, Necromorphs travel around their environment using ventilation shafts, which means you’ll learn to treat every vent with an appropriate degree of suspicion - once you realise they’re actually monster dispense systems.
When the Necromorphs do turn up, they will immediately dart towards Isaac Clark, running at breakneck speeds along walls and roofs so they can jab him with their numerous pointy limbs.
While the Necromorphs behaviour is very Xenomorph, their design is clearly inspired by The Thing.
Unlike most zombies, the transformation into a Necromorph is sudden and shockingly violent, taking place over the course of just a few seconds the corpse will mutate and sprout all manner of additional arms, legs, claws, and tentacles before they jump up and fling themselves directly at your face.
So, one Necromorph is a frightening prospect, but it’s the sheer volume of these horrible screeching undead which Dead Space throws at you that makes the game such a nerve-shredding experience.
