7. Halo Reach - The Pillar Of Autumn
Reach was a bold step in the right direction for the Halo franchise. A completely new story told from the perspective of a random spartan and his charismatic team, as they set into motion the narrative beats of the first three Halo games.
Lone Wolf is often hailed as the most powerful mission in the game for its inevitable conclusion, but what precedes it is also one of the best levels in the entire series, with a lot of weight behind it in the narrative.
It's a long, challenging courier run in which you face Scarabs, Hunters, and more Covenant than you can shake a stick at. Against all odds, you manage it, and the sheer premise of your situation dawns on the player as they move through the level. In Reach, you're starting the fight, rather than finishing it.
It culminates in an emotionally strenuous ending in which you deliver Cortana to Captain Keyes by the skin of your teeth, protecting The Pillar Of Autumn with a Mac Cannon as it carries Master Chief and his faithful companion into deep space to save the world.
The entire concept is a lot like Rogue One, with poor Emile going down fighting to a group of Elite Zealots as you deliver the key.
