10 Movie Video Games That Were EPIC Fails

3. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

So much has been written about E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600 that it's almost impossible to say much new about it's absolute dreadful gameplay.

One thing is okay: The title screen theme tune was...acceptable?

E.T. was a horribly-programmed rushjob of 1982 for the-then popular Atari 2600. Designer Howard Warshaw was given just 5 weeks to program the game ready for the holiday season. It sold well at first, but once word got out about how difficult and basic it was, sales tanked. Some blame it for subsequent video game crash in North America.

Gameplay was simple, if cryptic; most games of the '80s were. But after depositing E.T. on the first screen, you're given a score counter which goes down and at the top of the screen there are icons and arrows which change from moment-to-moment. Playing the game with no strategy or understanding of the icons and other characters will result in death, frustration and being trapped in the massive wells with no way out.

The manual was necessary reading but it's common knowledge that NOBODY reads game manuals. Heck, they don't even make 'em any more! This was an epic fail because it took Spielberg treasure and changed it to Atari trash.
