10 Multiplayer Video Games RUINED By Microtransactions

Ah, Dungeon Keeper Mobile. The Unholy Grail of Microtransaction nightmares.

In a lot of ways, Dungeon Keeper Mobile was an "ahead of its time" innovator. It was one of the first games to be described as "freemium." It was the start of the slippery downward slope that was EA's public reputation, and it highlighted the mobile games market as being filled with nothing more than mostly exploitative cash grabs.

Oh, and it tanked a beloved franchise to boot. How lovely.

Seriously, this game is iconic for all the wrong reasons, and is the infernal standard bearer for terrible pay to win trash. The lacklustre gameplay, the terrible time extensions, the constant pestering for cash like a hellish toddler screaming for sweets.

It was enough to break the spirit of even the most hardened of the mobile marketplace veterans. Smashed phone screens and tear stained wallets followed in the wake of this game's download.

This series is now renowned more for the sins of its publisher than the successes of its developer, and that truly is a shame. Microtransactions not only ruined this Dungeon Keeper game, but tarnished the entire Dungeon Keeper franchise as a whole.
