10 New Video Games You NEED To Be Playing (But Aren't)
8. Dead Letter Dept.
Dead Letter Dept. is a most brilliantly unexpected of things - an indie horror game centered around typing.
The player character has moved to a new city and taken a data entry job in the middle of nowhere, where they're tasked with processing undelivered mail by typing out parts of the address that the company's automated system can't read.
It might sound mundane, but it doesn't take long for things to get seriously creepy, ensuring that the mere act of rote typing becomes fraught with anxious tension about where it might lead.
The gorgeously grim, scuzzy retro art style and pervasively eerie sound design make this feel like a cursed typing sim by way of David Lynch, especially given the rather vague nature of the unsettling narrative unfolding around you.
And given that it can be comfortably beaten in around two hours, you're definitely advised to put on some headphones, shut out the world, and play it in a single hair-raising sitting.
