10 New Video Games You NEED To Be Playing (But Aren't)
3. Despelote
To take one look at football-themed walking simulator Despelote, you might assume that you need an enthusiastic interest in the sport to connect with it, but that's not true at all.
The game is inspired by the actual experiences of developer Julián Cordero, as he grew up in Ecuador's capital city of Quito and cheered on the national football team following their historic qualification for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
You'll spend most of Despelote's 90-ish minutes running around town, kicking your football, and talking to friends and family members alike.
But again, you needn't be a footy fan to have a blast with this.
Drinking in the vibrant atmosphere of Quito - elevated by a contrast-y art style and phenomenal voice acting - justifies the asking price alone, though you'll struggle not to be moved by a story which demonstrates the community-uniting potential of sport in general.
If you're in the market for a thoroughly chill game to unwind with after plowing through a stressful AAA actioner, you couldn't do much better.
