10 OBVIOUS Video Game Plot Holes (That Actually Aren't)

1. Fallout 3 - Why Didn't Fawkes Enter The Chamber?

Bioshock game
Bethesda Softworks

Sending the radiation-resistant Fawkes into the chamber flooded with deadly radiation seemed the obvious choice. So, when it could not be done, players cried foul. Bethesda agreed and the Broken Steel DLC was released to fix the ‘plot-hole.’

At least that it is the claim.

However, the Internet is forgetting something.

The reality is that the player could ask Fawkes to enter chamber, but he would refuse, saying: “I’m sorry, my companion, but no. We all have our destinies and yours culminates here. I would not rob you of that.”

This might seem a cheap excuse and lazy writing on Bethesda’s part, but for the unusually philosophical Fawkes, the reasoning is sound. It is, after all, the heroes who make the noble sacrifices.

Allow the companion to be the saviour and the noble ideal is ruined, along with the move towards good it is meant to inspire.

To be fair, considering that Broken Steel is bundled with most versions of Fallout 3 currently sold and Let’s Plays of the original sans DLC are near impossible to find, the Internet can be forgiven for forgetting the original ending.

Now you know better.
