10 Overlooked Movie Licensed Games (That Were Actually Awesome)
4. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
The exact antithesis of its movie namesake, X-Men Origins: Wolverine was an edgy, bloody and gruff mess when it first released in 2009 - and gamers loved it.
Finally giving you the chance to control an M-rated Wolverine, the game was full of bloody executions and gory effects - providing a version of the superhero everyone had been craving to see for decades. In contrast to just about every other licensed title, it was the little details of Origins that proved to be so well thought out, right down to seeing Wolverine's body tear apart under fire, only to reconstitute as his healing factor kicked in.
Although the gameplay itself could be rather repetitive, with the same handful of mission types being reused over and over again, it hardly ever mattered because the visceral combat just felt so good.
Unfortunately, the title didn't quite reach its audience, and in a reversal of the fairly shoddy X-Men 2 game, Wolverine's Revenge (a half-baked release sold off the back of an amazing movie), here we had the total opposite, as Origins' disastrous reception prevented many consumers from putting down cash on the game.
