10 Overlooked Movie Licensed Games (That Were Actually Awesome)
3. Spider-Man 2
For as much as this entry seems like a no-brainer in an article about great movie tie-in games, Spider-Man 2 actually wasn't as well-received at the time as its reputation now would have you believe. Hell, the title barely scraped by with many sevens in reviews.
However, even these scores seemed incredible for the time, because before Spider-Man 2 fans of the web-head were suffering through a pretty dire drought when it came to video game adaptations of their favourite superhero. Apart from the original PS1 release, all players really had to choose from were a handful of half-baked sequels and an even worse adaptation of the first movie.
But then, Spider-Man 2 changed everything. No longer restricted to the tops of buildings or the sewers (seriously, what is it with Spider-Man video games and their fascination with sewers?), players were finally given the ability to traverse New York just like the web-slinger himself - and it was amazing.
Honestly, although future games would retain the open world, only this PS2 classic would manage to completely nail the actual act of swinging through the city. Simplistic but deep, actually moving around New York felt like a skilful task in itself, as you had to juggle angles, momentum and positioning if you wanted to pull of those really epic Spidey moves.
